Administrative Security Settings Help

To prevent unauthorized changes to printer settings, enter a user name and password and/or host access list in the Administrator Settings fields. This User Name/Password combination should be kept secure. Once a user name and password have been set, you must enter them to change printer or network settings from within CentreWare IS.

Note: If an Administrator account is not set up, all users have unrestricted access to all printer features. The Administrator account must be created before features can be restricted or made unavailable for any other user class.

When you are satisfied with your selections, click Save Changes to keep the settings or Discard Changes to keep the previous settings.

User Classes

After creating an Administrator account, you can authorize feature access to the other two user classes.

  • Administrator - Super user with ultimate management responsibility who requires access to the entire functionality of the printer. This user class must be configured before any other user set can be assigned permissions.
  • Key User - Users who are either a lesser-empowered administrator assigned responsibility for a sub-set of printer functions, or a class of users who are given restricted access. This user class inherits all of the checked Feature Authorization settings for the Any User class.
  • Any User - Typical user printing to the printer.

Setting a User Name and Password

After the Administrator account is created, the Key User account user name and password combination can be created for users who need specific access.

Host Access List - Enter the Host Access List. This list contains IP Addresses or DNS Names of all host machines that can be used to access CentreWare IS. If you enter more than one address or name, separate the entries with a space or a comma. IPv4 or IPv6 addresses are supported. If an IPv4 address is entered you can access selected secured pages from that IPv4 address only and not from an IPv6 address even if it belongs to the same host, and vice versa. The IPv6 syntax of compressing zeros using :: is not allowed in IPv6 addresses. This field accepts a maximum of 255 characters.

User Name - Enter a user name. The user name can be up to 10 alphanumeric characters in length.

Password/Verify Password - Enter a password. This password can be up to 32 alphanumeric characters in length. Verify the password by re-entering it. Passwords cannot contain the following special characters:
" ' & ? + = < > \

Note: If you forget the printer password, the Xerox® website contains technical support tools that you can use for assistance.
If you forget the administrator password, a billable, on-site service call is required to access and unlock the features restricted by the administrator.

Feature Authorization Settings

After the user accounts are created, rights to access specific printer functions can be assigned. Functions are separated into three categories: Administration functions, Web Server Printing functions, and Printer Neighborhood functions. The administrator has full rights and access to all functions.

PostScript and PJL Configuration Password

PostScript and PJL commands can modify printer settings or load memory resident resources on a printer. Enter a password in this field to prevent such changes by PostScript and PJL commands unless the correct password is supplied. This password is case sensitive, and can be up to 32 characters in length. Verify the password by re-entering it. To clear the password, delete the password from the field and then click Save Changes. This password is blank by default.

Note: If the PostScript and PJL Configuration Password is set, you must supply it to update the printer firmware.
