Printer
Search Scope Help
Use the Printer Search Scope page to update or modify
settings that control how the printer searches the network, what subnets the
search accesses, and how much impact to the network you wish to permit when
searches are conducted.
Note: The default page that loads when you click the Preferences
tab is the Printer Search Scope page.
Search Type Setting
From the Search Type Setting section, select a Search
Type. If you select Quick Phaser Search, the printer search will only locate and display Xerox Phaser printers on the
network. If you click Search for All Printers, and click Save Changes, the search will display all printer types that
it finds on the network.
Auto Search on Reboot
Select the Auto Search on Reboot checkbox to direct the printer
to perform an automatic printer search whenever the printer reboots. If the
checkbox is cleared, the printer will not perform a printer search upon reboot.
This checkbox is cleared (unchecked) by default.
Note: The Auto Search on Reboot checkbox displays
on this page on network printer configurations without hard drives only.
On network printer configurations with hard drives, this checkbox displays
on the Printer Search Schedule page.
IP Address / Subnet Settings
Note: These functions are only supported in network printer
configurations with hard drives.
If Quick Phaser Search is selected for Search Type Setting,
you can specify a maximum of 10 subnets for the printer to search. Expand
or contract the subnet search parameters using the Add
Subnet... or Delete Subnet(s)... buttons on
this page. Each of these buttons displays its own dialog with instructions to
help you add or delete subnets for the printer search.
If Search for All Printers is selected for Search Type Setting,
you can specify a maximum of 10 IP address ranges for the printer to
search. Expand or contract the IP address range search parameters using the
Add Range... or Delete
Range(s)... buttons on this page. Each of these buttons displays its own dialog
with instructions to help you add or delete IP address ranges and subnets for
the printer to search.
To add a subnet, enter a valid IP address and subnet mask, then
click Add. The search range is automatically calculated using the subnet
mask entered when Add is clicked. To add an IP address range, enter the
starting and ending IP addresses and a valid subnet mask, then click Add.
The IP address range must be in the same subnet, and cannot span several subnets.
Note: You must confirm the add or delete action from the
Add Subnet/Add IP Range or Delete Subnet/Delete IP Range dialogs
in order for those actions to be performed. If you close the window without
confirming the actions, they will not be performed. You will receive a confirmation
message if the action is successful. If you enter a new subnet/IP address range
and click Add, the new subnet/IP address range displays on the Printer
Search Scope page.
Network Impact / Search
Performance
Performing printer searches can impact network performance. You
can select how the search affects your network by moving the slider between
Least Network Impact, when you want the search to run, but have other
network processes that cannot be impacted, or by clicking Most Network Impact,
when the search is very important.
Note: Access to the Preferences tab functions is controlled
by the administrator. You may require a user name and password to access these
functions. See the Administrator
Security Settings Help in CentreWare IS.
