Using the Advanced Configuration Tool

The Advanced Configuration Tool allows you to configure and administer your Tektronix printer and the queues it services, while providing functionality not available with PCONSOLE. The tool allows you to control parameters that can be set from PCONSOLE. It also allows you to control the following printer-specific parameters not supported by PCONSOLE:

The Advanced Configuration Tool is compatible with NetWare 4.x, but it uses the bindery to configure the printer and queues. Instead of accessing the entire network, individual file servers are viewed and selected.

Note: If your network has more than 32 file servers, use the Advanced Configuration Tool to configure printers and queues.
The Advanced Configuration Tool creates and maintains a configuration file for each printer. Configuration files contain the names of the queues and file servers the printer will service.

Configuration files created by the Advanced Configuration Tool reside in the directory SYS:LOGINTEK.

Configuration files are named according to the following syntax:

TKxxxxxx

where xxxxxx represents the last six hexadecimal digits of the Printer ID of the printer being configured.

Installing the Advanced Configuration Tool

The Advanced Configuration Tool (ACT.EXE) is included with your printer's network utilities software. You can run the tool from the diskette or CD-ROM, but it is recommended that you install it on the hard disk of a NetWare file server or client.

To install the advanced configuration tool, copy it to a directory on a NetWare file server or client. For example, if the network utilities diskette is in drive B: and the destination directory is F:PUBLIC, type this command:

COPY B:PCACT.EXE F:PUBLIC
