Printer configuration using NDSON.PS
In DOS environments and other non-Windows environments, you can use the file NDSON.PS to configure the printer for NetWare 4.1 networks. The file is included with your printer's network utilities software. Copy the file to your hard disk before you begin printer configuration.
Note: The PostScript code contained in the file NDSON.PS is also
available in a Macintosh version. The file name is Enable NDS.
To configure your printer for NetWare 4.1 from a PC using the file NDSON.PS, you must edit the file and send it to the printer. When you edit the file, you need to supply the following information:
The comments in the file provide more information.
- To use the file NDSON.PS, first open the file using any text editor. Make the appropriate changes to the file according to the instructions contained in the file.
- Send the file to the printer by any convenient method. Since the printer is not yet set up for NetWare operation, you cannot send the file to the printer over a NetWare connection; use a parallel, EtherTalk, TokenTalk, LPR, or AppSocket connection.
Sending the file over a parallel connection
If you send the file to the printer over a parallel connection, you must add Control-D characters to the beginning and end of the file. You can use the batch file ADDCTRLD.BAT in the NET-UTIL directory to do this. The files ADDCTRLD.BAT, CTRLD.PS, and NDSON.PS must all be in the same directory.
- Copy the files to your hard disk.
- To use ADDCTRLD.BAT to add Control-D's to the file NDSON.PS, type the following command:
- ADDCTRLD NDSON.PS
- After you send the file to the printer, you must reset the printer before the configuration will take effect. For more information, see Resetting the Printer.
