NetWare 3.x
With NetWare 3.x in DOS environments, you can use PCONSOLE to configure the network, but you must also use the Advanced Configuration Tool to configure the printer. Alternatively, you can use the Advanced Configuration Tool to configure both the printer and the network, and not use PCONSOLE at all.

Network configuration using PCONSOLE

Adding a print server

  1. Log in with supervisor privileges.

  2. Launch the NetWare utility PCONSOLE.

  3. From the Available Options menu, select Print Server Information and press the Enter key. The Print Servers menu is displayed.

  4. Press the Insert key, then enter the printer's default print server name, and press Enter. The default print server name is in the following syntax:

    TEKxxxxxx

where xxxxxx is the last six hex digits of the printer's Printer ID.

The printer's print server name is listed on the Configuration Page. For information on printing a Configuration Page, see The printer's Configuration Page.

When you have entered the default print server's name, press Enter. The new name is added to the Print Servers menu.

  5. With the Print Server name highlighted, press Enter to display the Print Server Information submenu. Select Print Server Configuration and press the Enter key.

  6. In the Print Server Configuration Menu, select Printer Configuration and press the Enter key.

  7. In Configured Printers, select the first printer in the list and press the Enter key. The Printer Configuration menu is displayed.

  8. Change these settings:

  9. Save the changes and return to the Available Options menu:

Selecting queues for the printer

  1. From the Available Options menu, select Print Queue Information. A list of queues is displayed.

  2. Insert a new queue or select an existing queue.

  3. Select Queue Servers from the Print Queue Information menu.

  4. Press the Insert key to display the list of Queue Server Candidates.

  5. Select the server you created in Step 4 under the topic Adding a print server and press Enter.

  6. Press the Escape key three times to return to the Available Options Menu.

Note: The Advanced Configuration Tool creates a configuration file. The printer uses the information in that configuration file rather than the configuration file set up by PCONSOLE. Use the Advanced Configuration Tool to set the printer's configuration server to "" (an empty string). Then delete the configuration file created by the Advanced Configuration Tool before using PCONSOLE to change the configuration.
Changing the password

If you use Change Password in PCONSOLE, the password is not sent to the printer. Use the Advanced Configuration Tool to set the printer password.

Configuration using the Advanced Configuration Tool

Use this procedure to perform a quick configuration using the default parameters supplied by the Advanced Configuration Tool. For more information on using the Advanced Configuration Tool, see More information on the Advanced Configuration Tool.

Before beginning this procedure, make sure that the printer is connected to the network and turned on.

  1. Log on with supervisor privileges.

  2. Start the Advanced Configuration Tool:

    1. Change (CD) to the directory that contains the tool. For example, if the tool is in F:PUBLIC, type:

      F:
      CD PUBLIC

    2. Type:

    ACT

  3. Select Quick configuration from the Configure menu. The available Tektronix printers are displayed.

  4. Select the Tektronix printer you wish to configure and press Enter. The factory default print server name is in the following syntax:

    TEKxxxxxx

where xxxxxx are the last six hex digits of the printer's Printer ID.

Note: If the printer does not appear in the list of available printers, you could have a network hardware problem or an incorrect frame type (see
Printer does not appear in the Advanced Configuration Tool).
  5. When you have selected a Tektronix printer, a list of file servers is displayed. Select the file server you wish to configure and press Enter.

  6. You may be prompted to log in to the server. Log on with supervisor privileges.

  7. After you log in to the file server, a list of queues is displayed. Select an existing queue or create a new queue. To create a new queue, press Insert, type the name of the queue, and press Enter.

  8. You can now configure more queues or finish the quick configuration.

If you want to finish the quick configuration

    1. Select Save configuration and restart print server.

    2. Select the name of the file server that will hold the configuration file for this printer and press Enter. This saves the configuration file and restarts the print server portion of the printer (not a complete printer reset).

If you want to configure more queues

  9. Select Save configuration and press Enter.

  10. Select the name of the file server that will hold the configuration file for this printer and press Enter. (This step is only needed after configuring the first queue.)

  11. A list of queues for the current file server is displayed. To add queues to a different file server, press Escape and return to Step 5. To configure a queue from the current file server, select an existing queue from the displayed list or create a new queue. To create a new queue, press Insert, enter the name of the queue, and press Enter.

  • Press the Escape key to exit the menus and return to the main menu.

  • Select Exit to exit the Advanced Configuration Tool.
