Install Device Certificate Help

This page enables you to install a device certificate that validates the identity of the printer to clients and network servers and enables encrypted communication. If you do not install a device certificate signed by a certificate authority (CA), a default self-signed device certificate is automatically established on the printer when it is needed. A CA signed device certificate is needed to log into the network when using 802.1X EAP authentication with TLS.

To add the certificate, perform one of the following tasks (do not do both):

  • Enter the path to the certificate in the Path to certificate field, or click Browse... to locate the certificate on your computer. Device certificate file contents must be in base-64 encoded (PEM), binary encoded (DER), PKCS7 or PKCS12 format.
  • OR

  • Copy the lines of data in the certificate starting with ---BEGIN CERTIFICATE--- and ending with ---END CERTIFICATE, and paste the information into the Certificate data field.

Decryption Password - Enter the Decryption password that is required if the certificate is contained in an encrypted PKCS7 or PKCS12 file. Decryption password can be up to 32 characters in length.

Friendly Name - Enter a meaningful Friendly Name to identify the certificate. Friendly Name is required, and can be up to 64 alphanumeric characters in length. Friendly Name is only used to identify the certificate during configuration. It is not used by any authentication protocol.

This page is used for 802.1X configuration and certificate management. If you are configuring 802.1X, click Back to return to the previous page, click Next to proceed, or click Cancel to return to the 802.1X Configuration Summary page. For certificate management, click Back to return to the previous page or click Finish to install the certificate and return to the Manage Certificates page.
