NetWare 4.x (NDS mode)
|
Network configuration
Note: This procedure describes NetWare 4.x configuration using the
NWAdmin utility. You can also perform network configuration
using PCONSOLE; refer to Network configuration
(PCONSOLE Quick Setup). If you are running the printer in
bindery emulation mode, see NetWare 3.x and 4.x in Bindery
mode.
- Log in to the network as ADMIN or ADMIN equivalent. With a directory services login, you can launch the NWAdmin utility by clicking the Configure Network button in the PhaserShare Administrator's Main window (see Steps 1 and 2 under Printer configuration). If the Configure Network button is grayed out, start NWAdmin manually or use PCONSOLE to perform the following configuration steps.
- Create a queue object and add the correct queue users.
- Create a printer object, and add the queue just created to the list of queues through the Assignments option.
- Create a print server object. Add the printer to the list of printers through the Assignments option.
Printer configuration
- Make sure that the PhaserShare Administrator is installed (for information see Installation). Versions 3.1 and above of the PhaserShare Administrator support NetWare 4.x.
- Start the PhaserShare Administrator by double-clicking the PhaserShare Administrator icon. Refer to your Windows documentation for complete information on how to start applications. The Main window is displayed.
- In the Main window, select the printer (print server) in the Printer List.
- Display the Protocol Settings dialog box.
- In the Main window, click the Configure Printer button; this
displays the Configure Printer dialog box.
- In the Configure Printer dialog box, click the Ethernet or
Token Ring tab; this displays the Ethernet or Token Ring tab.
- In the Ethernet tab, click the Protocol Settings button; this
displays the Protocol Settings dialog box.
- In the Protocol Settings dialog box, the Print Server tab is always displayed on top. Make the following settings in the Print Server tab:
- Make sure that the Enable NDS box is checked.
- Enter the name of the directory services tree to be used in the
DSTree field. This name must be the tree that was used when
setting up the queue, printer, and print server with the
NWAdmin utility.
- In the DS Context field, enter the location in the directory services
tree where the print server resides. This field contains the path to
the container object that holds the leaf object of the print server that
the printer will connect to. The value entered must match the location selected
using the NWAdmin utility.
- Make sure that the Print Server Name field matches the print
server object name in the NDS tree.
- Click the OK button. When prompted to reset the print server,
click the OK button again. After the reset, you are returned to
the Configure Printer dialog box.
Finishing the configuration
- In the Configure Printer dialog box, click the OK button to return to the Main window..
- In the Main window, click the Exit button to close the PhaserShare Administrator.
- If necessary, refer to your printer's user documentation to configure the Tektronix driver to the printer's print queue.
- The printer should now be servicing the print queue. Send a test print from a Windows application. If the test print fails, see Troubleshooting Windows configurations.
Note: NWAdmin always shows the status of the print server as being
down. NWAdmin cannot check the status of a print server not
located on the file server.
