Changing the printer's EtherTalk/TokenTalk zone (optional)
There are three ways to change the printer's zone:

Changing the printer's zone: PhaserLink software

  1. From the printer's home page, click the Configuration button; this displays the View and Configure Settings page.

  2. On the View and Configure Settings page, click the link to the View and Configure Interface Settings page.

  3. On the View and Configure Interface Settings page, click the link to the appropriate page: View and Configure EtherTalk Settings, View or View and Configure TokenTalk Settings.

  4. Enter the desired zone in the Zone field.

For more information on PhaserLink software, see PhaserLink Software: the Printer's Information Link.

Changing the printer's zone: PostScript utility files

To change the printer's EtherTalk or TokenTalk zone, edit the appropriate PostScript language file and send it to the printer. The files are included with your printer's network utilities software. To change the EtherTalk zone, use the file Set EtherTalk Zone; to change the TokenTalk zone, use the file Set TokenTalk Zone.

  1. Open the file using any text editor. (To ensure that the file remains pure PostScript, it is recommended that you use a "plain text" editor such as TeachText or SimpleText, rather than a word-processing application like Microsoft Word. If you must use a word-processing application, make sure that you save the file as plain text.)

  2. Find the line:

    (My Zone Name)

Replace the text inside the parentheses with the zone name you want to use.

  3. Save the file as plain text.

  4. Use the Apple Printer Utility to send the PostScript file; see Sending PostScript files to the printer: Apple Printer Utility.

The printer changes its zone name and dynamically changes to the new zone (the printer appears on the new zone as if the printer were just turned on). Select the printer in the Chooser in the new zone.

Note: If there is already a printer with the same name in the new zone, the new printer appears on the network with a number added to the name. See
Notes regarding printer names.
