Downloading files from a Macintosh
To use the files, send or download them to the printer with the Apple Printer Utility.

All of the PostScript utility files on the printer's CD-ROM can be downloaded to the printer with the Apple Printer Utility.

Click on the following topics for more information:

Using the Apple Printer Utility to download files

The Apple Printer Utility is an Apple utility program you use on the Macintosh to send PostScript files and fonts to the printer.

The Apple Printer Utility version 2.0 is compatible with Apple System Software versions 7.0 and later. It is also compatible with QuickDraw GX and Mac OS 8.0.

If you are using System Software 6.x, check with the Tektronix BBS for a version of the LaserWriter Utility in the LW_UTIL.SEA compressed archive file.

Note: The Apple Printer Utility cannot be used if the printer is connected to a print server. See your system administrator to temporarily remove the printer from the print server to download necessary files.
  1. See Installing the Macintosh utility files to install the printer's software.

  2. Locate the Apple Printer Utility in the PhaserTools folder on your hard disk, and double-click its icon to start the application.

  3. In the Printer Selector dialog box, make the following selections:

    1. Under AppleTalk Zones, select your printer's zone location.

    2. Under Printers, select your Phaser 360 printer.

    3. Click Open Printer.

A dialog box appears with the selected zone and printer name at the top.

  4. From the File menu, select Send PostScript File. The Select the PostScript files to download dialog box appears.

  5. Select the folder location of the PostScript file or files you want to download to the printer.

  6. To select individual files, highlight a file and click Add. Or, click Add All to add all files in that folder to the list of files to download to the printer.

  7. Click Send to download the file or files to the printer.

  8. At the prompt Save PostScript output as you are asked for a file name for saving printer output. Use the default name given in the edit box or type in a new name. (Printer output includes status messages generated by the printer reporting such conditions as out of paper.)

  9. Click Save.

  10. If no output is returned by the printer, the Apple Printer Utility displays a dialog box; click Continue.

If output is returned by the printer, you won't see this dialog box; check your hard disk for the file created by the utility for the printer's output.

Using the Apple Printer Utility to perform other tasks

In addition to downloading PostScript files, you can use the Apple Printer Utility to perform the following specialized tasks:

Downloading files from the Phaser 360 GX driver

If you are using QuickDraw GX, you can use the Phaser 360 GX driver to download utility files to the printer.

Use the Send PostScript File command in the Printing menu to download PostScript files to the selected desktop printer. This command cannot be used on a shared printer, except by the Macintosh hosting the shared printer.

  1. Select (highlight) a desktop printer icon.

  2. Select Send PostScript File from the Printing menu.

  3. Select the PostScript file you want to download.

  4. Click Open to send the file to the printer.
