Changing the printer's AppleTalk name
The printer's name has the following characteristics:

Changing the printer's name from a Macintosh


Note: Remove any desktop printer icons that refer to the old printer name and make new desktop printers after changing the printer's name.
  1. See Installing the Macintosh utility files to install the printer's software.

  2. Locate the Apple Printer Utility in the PhaserTools folder on your hard disk, and double-click its icon to start the application.

  3. In the Printer Selector dialog box, make the following selections:

    1. Under AppleTalk Zones, select your printer's zone location.

    2. Under Printers, select your Phaser 360 printer.

    3. Click Open Printer.

      A dialog box appears with the selected zone and printer name at the top.

  4. Click the arrow next to Printer Preferences. A list of options appears.

  5. Click the arrow next to Name.

  6. In the text box, type in the new name for the printer.

  7. Click the Send button at the top of the dialog box to change the printer's setting.

Changing the printer's name from a PC/workstation

You can change the printer's AppleTalk name from a PC.

  1. Follow the instructions in Installing the utility files to install the printer's software.

  2. Locate the utility files in the PHSR360 subdirectory inside the PHSRTOOL directory created on your hard disk by the printer's installer.

  3. View the PRNTNAME.PS file in a text editor.

  4. Edit the file to substitute a different printer name for

    (My Printer Name) in the /PrinterName line.


    Note: Some text editors add a carriage return or line feed after the last Control-D character in a file you are editing. If your computer is connected to the printer through the parallel port, the extra characters will start a new job and the printer times out after a few minutes. To avoid this, copy the CTRLD.PS file to the printer after you send the PRNTNAME.PS file; see
    CTRLD.PS for more information on the CTRLD.PS file.
  5. Use one of the following methods to send the file to the printer:
