Host Access List Help

This page enables you to control host access to the printer over LPR or Port 9100. You can enter up to five IP address/address mask combinations that you want to control connections from, and then select reject, accept, or off to specify the type of filtering. If a Host Access List is specified, hosts that do not match the settings on this page are denied access using LPR or Port 9100.

The format for both IP address and address mask is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 through 255. The IP address entered cannot be 0.0.0.0 or any address starting with 127 or 224-254.

The first IP address/address mask combination in the list is given priority. If you are entering more than one IP address/address mask combination, enter the pair that covers the smallest area first. If Disabled is selected, the IP address/address mask are cleared and the valid setting next in the list is moved up one row on the Host Access List page when Save Changes is clicked.

Host Access List Examples

If you want to allow printing from one specific IP address only. The access list would look like the following:

  1. Next to Access List #1, in the IP Address field, type 192.168.100.10.
  2. In the Address Mask field, type 255.255.255.255.
  3. Under Operation, select Accept.

If you want to reject one specific IP address, but allow printing from any other address. The access list would look like the following:

  1. Next to Access List #1, in the IP Address field, type 192.168.100.50.
  2. In the Address Mask field, type 255.255.255.255.
  3. Under Operation, select Reject.
  4. Next to Access List #2, in the IP Address field, type 0.0.0.0.
  5. In the Address Mask field, type 0.0.0.0.
  6. Under Operation, select Accept.

The first row of the access list is the highest priority. If configuring a list with multiple rows, enter the smallest range first. Make the first row the most specific, and the last row the most general. If you want to set up the host access list to do the following:

  • Accept printing from a specific network.
  • Reject printing from a particular network mask within that network.
  • Accept printing from one particular IP address within that network mask.

In this example, the access list would look like the following:

  1. Next to Access List #1, in the IP Address field, type 192.168.200.10.
  2. In the Address Mask field, type 255.255.255.255.
  3. Under Operation, select Accept.
  4. Next to Access List #2, in the IP Address field, type 192.168.200.0.
  5. In the Address Mask field, type 255.255.255.0.
  6. Under Operation, select Reject.
  7. Next to Access List #3, in the IP Address field, type 192.168.0.0.
  8. In the Address Mask field, type 255.255.0.0.
  9. Under Operation, select Accept.

When you are satisfied with your selections, click Save Changes to keep the settings or Discard Changes to keep the previous settings.
