View and Configure General Settings This page allows you to view or set general printer settings. Making these settings from this page is equivalent to making the corresponding settings from the printer's front panel, which means the settings are retained in the printer's memory and are overridden on a job-by-job basis by settings made from the printer driver. The actual settings displayed depend on the printer. The following tables describe settings from a Tektronix Phaser 350 printer.
No: The startup page is not printed.
Skip: Disables automatic execution of the SysStart file.
Upper Tray (If Lower Tray Assembly is installed)
Middle Tray (If Lower Tray Assembly is installed)
Lower Tray (If Lower Tray Assembly is installed)
Multi-Purpose Feeder

For a Phaser 540 printer, the value entered must be between 1 and 90.
For Phaser 340 and Phaser 350 printers, the value entered must be between 1 and 999.
Read-only parameters on the View and Configure General Settings page Parameter Description Ports This field reports the ports available on the printer and the installed PhaserShare card. Ethernet (or Token Ring) Protocols This field reports the protocols available. If this field is not displayed, it is not supported by the printer. Printer ID This field reports the Printer ID, a unique number that identifies the printer. Authorization Code This parameter is read-only on this page; it is hyper-linked to the Reset Printer Parameters page, where it can be set. Authorization codes are used to activate optional printer features. Authorization codes sent to the printer take effect after the printer is reset. If the code is shown as all zeros, no authorization has been done yet. Adobe PostScript Level 2 Version This field reports the version number of the PostScript firmware installed in the printer. Tektronix Version This field reports the firmware version number of the printer's PostScript ROM and the firmware version number of the print engine ROM. RAM Memory This field reports the amount of RAM installed in the printer. Fonts Available This field reports the number of fonts in the printer's PostScript ROM. Copystation Firmware This field reports the firmware version number of the Copystation, if one is connected to the printer.
View and Configure Interface Settings This page contains links to other pages that contain fields for interface configuration. Interface parameters are presented in fields on the PhaserLink web pages. Some fields are read-only, that is, they report information (you cannot change the contents of these fields). Other fields contain information that you can read and change as you manage your printer on the network. The contents of these fields are either text strings or drop-down list boxes.
This topic describes the fields and their contents for the following web pages available from the View and Configure Interface Settings page:

If you select AutoSelect, the printer automatically senses the language of the print job and processes it accordingly; this is called automatic language selection. Refer to your printer's user documentation for more information about automatic language selection and which languages the printer supports.
Note: This page is not implemented in the Phaser 340 or Phaser 550 printers.

Ethernet frame types:
802.3-2 (IEEE packet type with MAC header followed by 802.2 LLC header)
802.3-SNAP (IEEE packet type with MAC header followed by 802.2 LLC header and SNAP header)
DIX (DEC/Intel/Xerox Specification Version 2 packet type)
Adaptive. If the frame type is set to Adaptive, the printer uses the frame type of the first file server that responds to a broadcast from the printer. The printer broadcasts Ethernet packets in the following order: IEEE Ethernet 802.3, DIX Ethernet II.
Token Ring frame types:
802.5-2 (IEEE Token Ring 802.5)
802.5-2-SNAP (IEEE Token Ring 802.5-SNAP)
Adaptive. If the frame type is set to Adaptive, the printer uses the frame type of the first file server that responds to a broadcast from the printer. The printer broadcasts Token Ring packets in the following order: IEEE Token Ring 802.5, IEEE Token Ring 802.5-SNAP.
The new frame type is not used until the print server or printer is reset.
You may enter a value between 0 and 1999 minutes. The default value is 3 minutes. You may need to increase the value beyond the default if the network has a file server that takes a long time to start up after a power cycle. Setting the value to 0 disables the timeout; that is, the printer will continue to search for a configuration file server or directory services tree indefinitely.
If this NDS is enabled, an entry must be entered in the DS Tree field.
Binary. An 8-bit encoding scheme that provides some communication functions, such as end-of-file and abort job. This has been superseded by TBCP.
TBCP (Tagged Binary Communications Protocol). An 8-bit encoding scheme that provides some communication functions, such as end-of-file and abort job. This is the recommended protocol for Adobe-supplied printer drivers.
Normal. An ASCII-based encoding scheme that is used for sending PostScript language jobs to the printer. It is not recommended for jobs that contain binary data. This is the default protocol for the Phaser 340 printer.
Note: Protocol cannot be set to Normal if Language is set to AutoSelect; Protocol cannot be set to Raw if Language is set to PostScript, HPGL, or PCL.
Note: If Communication is set to Uni-directional, Output Device must be set to null string (select any text in the field and delete it). With a PhaserShare Ethernet or Token Ring card, if Communication is set to Bi-directional, the Output Device must be set to %Parallel%.
For Locally Administered Addresses, you can enter any valid Token Ring address between 4x:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx and 7x:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx. Entering an empty string causes the printer to reset the address to the printer's default address.
SourceRoute (use source routing)
Adaptive (default; printer determines whether or not to use source routing based on the data)
All Routes. The printer uses all routes broadcasts for all broadcasts.
Route Broadcasting is ignored if Bridging is set to Transparent.
NOTE: Some protocols (for example, IP and ARP) always use all routes, so they are not affected by this parameter.
Note: If you are using BOOTP to set the printer's IP address, this value is overwritten by the value entered in the bootptab file.
If you choose Dynamic Address Resolution, the values in the following fields are overwritten when the printer is reset: IP Address, Network Mask, Broadcast Address, and Gateway Address.
DIX (DEC/Intel/Xerox Specification Version 2 packet type).
Adaptive Encapsulation. If you choose Adaptive Encapsulation, the printer uses both DIX (Ethernet II) and IEEE 802.3 encapsulation (with IEEE 802.2 LLC and SNAP headers).
Token Ring frame type:
802.5-2 SNAP (IEEE Token Ring 802.5-SNAP)
Note: The View and Configure TELNET Settings page is not implemented in the Phaser 340 and Phaser 550 printers.
View and Configure Information Forwarding When you click on a link that connects you to the Tektronix web server, the Information Forwarding feature causes the printer to send the following printer status information back to the Tektronix server:
Firmware version
Printer ID number
Page count
Disabling Information Forwarding
Select No from the Information Forwarding Enabled menu button.
If a validation password has been assigned, you must enter the password for the change to take effect.
Click the Do/Apply button.
Note: When Delayed Output Close is Off for a protocol, job accounting is disabled for that protocol. A printer equipped with a PhaserShare card can store information about jobs printed on the selected printer. The information is stored as a job accounting log file either in the printer's memory or on a hard disk, if one is connected to the printer. This job accounting log contains the name of the user who submitted the job, the file name of the job, and the number of pages.
Note: When Delayed Output Close is Off for a protocol, job accounting is disabled for that protocol.
If the log file is stored in the printer's memory, it is lost when the printer is reset; therefore, it is recommended that a hard disk be used with this job accounting feature.
The printer stores job accounting information for up to 5000 jobs on the hard disk if one is connected to the printer. The printer stores job accounting information for up to 500 jobs if the printer is not equipped with a hard disk.
Note: It is best to access job accounting information only when the printer is idle. For all fields in the job accounting log, the actual values reported vary depending on the protocol and print command used when each job was printed. For example, using NPRINT over NetWare provides the printer with the most information about the job being printed. When using Windows and NetWare, the job name is often LST: or LST:BANNER. Other jobs from other ports may provide even less information about the job. The Download Job Accounting Log page allows you to download the log from the printer. The menu button on the page provides three choices:
Note: It is best to access job accounting information only when the printer is idle.
Clear. Clears the job summary list stored by the printer.
Download. Downloads the job accounting log file from the printer to your host computer, but preserves the job summary list stored by the printer.
Note: For Phaser 350 printers. Each time the Download and Clear or Download buttons are clicked, the printer performs the requested operation for up to 50 of the oldest records. If more records are stored, the download and clear operations must be repeated. The Clear button clears all of the records. For Phaser 550 printers and Phaser 340 printers (serial number BCxxxxxx and above). Each time the Download and Clear or Download buttons are clicked, the printer performs the requested operation for up to 25 of the oldest records on a base model printer or 100 records on a plus model. If more records are stored, the download and clear operations must be repeated. The Clear button clears all of the records.

job-index,job-identifier,user,filename,job host,pages-printed,start-time,end-time, media-size,media-type,number-of-planes-printed
The last two fields, media-size and media-type, contain the coded values listed in the following table.
Job accounting log file format for Phaser 560 printer The Phaser 560 printer job accounting records reported through the Download Job Accounting Log page are formatted as shown in the following example:
The fields are separated by commas (,) and an empty field is indicated by two consecutive commas (,,).
The fields media size and media type contain coded values from those listed in the following table.
The values in the fields cyan used, magenta used, yellow used, and black used represent the percentage of the entire toner cartridge for that color that was used by the job. For example, 1.00800 indicates that 1.008% of the contents of the toner cartridge was used.
The fields start time and end time show the duration of the print job in milliseconds. The start time is always 0; the end time is the total elapsed time of the print job in milliseconds.
Define Local HTTP Link This page allows you to define a link from the printer's help page to your local web server. You can use this link to supply your own site-specific on-line help information.
The URL (Uniform Resource Locator) that you enter in the field is accessed when you click on the following links:
Local HTTP link on the printer's Help page
Set Administrator Password This page is used to set your printer's PhaserLink password. When set, this password is required to change printer or network parameters or to access job accounting information via the printer's pages.
Note: This password is for PhaserLink software only; it is not related to the PostScript job password. The factory default password is a blank field (no password needed to change parameters). It is recommended that you set a password to prevent unauthorized changing of the settings you have made. However, be sure to remember the password or record it in a safe place; recovering from a forgotten password can be inconvenient.
Note: This password is for PhaserLink software only; it is not related to the PostScript job password.
The maximum length for a password is ten characters; passwords are case-sensitive.
Setting a password
Enter the new password in the New Password field and in the Retype New Password field.
Enter the old password in the Validation Password field. If you are setting the password for the first time, leave the Validation Password field blank.
Reset Printer Parameters Clicking the Do/Apply button on this page resets the printer, which sets most printer parameters to the values currently stored in the printer's internal memory. The effect is the same as turning the printer off, then on again. If a validation password has been assigned, you must enter the password for the change to take effect.
For best results, follow these steps when resetting the printer from this page:
Wait 10 seconds, then click the browser's Stop button.
Reload the page in the browser.
