TCP/IP Help

This page enables you to configure the printer's host name, IP address, gateway address, DNS Server Address, and WINS Server address. Some fields are available only when the Multi-Protocol Network Card is installed.

Note: Changing settings here overwrites existing IP settings stored in the printer. Contact your network administrator before changing TCP/IP settings.

Host Name - Enter the host name. Host name can be up to 47 alphanumeric characters in length, and can include hyphens (-).

Get IP Address - Specify the method of obtaining the IP address, network mask, and gateway address by selecting one of the following options:

  • DHCP/Autonet - The addresses are automatically set via DHCP/Autonet. When this option is selected, addresses entered on the TCP/IP page are ignored.
  • DHCP - The addresses are automatically set via DHCP. When this option is selected, addresses entered on the TCP/IP page are ignored.
  • BOOTP - The addresses are automatically set via BOOTP. When this option is selected, addresses entered on the TCP/IP page are ignored.
  • RARP - The addresses are automatically set via RARP. When this option is selected, addresses entered on the TCP/IP page are ignored.
  • Manual - The addresses specified on the TCP/IP page are used. The IP address, network mask, and gateway address entered on this page must be valid.

IP Address - Enter the printer's IP address. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. The value entered must be a valid IP address and not 0.0.0.0, 255.255.255.255, or any address starting with 127 or 224-254.

Network Mask - Enter the network mask address. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. The value entered must be a valid address and not 255.255.255.255.

Router / Gateway Address - Gateway addresses are used to communicate with devices not on the same network segment. Enter the gateway host IP address. The gateway host address is the address of a host that is used to retransmit the packets from the current network segment to another network segment. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. The value entered must be a valid address and must not start with 127 or 224-254.

DNS

Use these settings to reference servers, such as email servers, by name.

Get DNS Server Address - Select the DHCP checkbox to automatically set the DNS server address using DHCP. When this checkbox is selected, DNS information entered in the following fields is ignored.

DNS Server Address - Enter the DNS server address. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. The value entered must be a valid address and must not start with 127 or 224-254.

DNS Domain Name - Enter the DNS domain name. DNS domain name can be up to 255 alphanumeric characters in length, and can include periods (.) and hyphens (-).

Auto Generation of Search List - This checkbox is available when the Multi-Protocol Network Card is installed. Select the Enabled checkbox to automatically create the domain search list.

Search Domain Name - This field is available when the Multi-Protocol Network Card is installed. Enter the domain name to be searched. Search domain name can be up to 255 alphanumeric characters in length, and can include periods (.) and hyphens (-).

Connection Time-Out - This field is available when the Multi-Protocol Network Card is installed. Enter the amount of time allowed before the connection times out. The value entered must be between 1 and 60 seconds.

Dynamic DNS Update - This field is available when the Multi-Protocol Network Card is installed. Select the Enabled checkbox to dynamically update DNS. When this checkbox is selected, you must also enter the DNS Domain Name. If dynamic DNS is prohibited by the server, this setting is ignored even if the checkbox is selected.

WINS Server

Get WINS Server Address - This checkbox is available when the Multi-Protocol Network Card is installed. Select the DHCP checkbox to automatically set the WINS server address using DHCP. When this checkbox is selected, WINS Server information entered in the following fields is ignored.

Primary WINS Server Address - This field is available when the Multi-Protocol Network Card is installed. Enter the address for the primary WINS name server. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. The value entered must be a valid address and must not start with 127 or 224-254. A value of all zeros indicates that no server is configured. If both primary and secondary name servers are undefined, the printer broadcasts (peer-to-peer) name recognition.

Secondary WINS Server Address - This field is available when the Multi-Protocol Network Card is installed. Enter the address for the secondary WINS name server.

When you are satisfied with your selections, click Save Changes to keep the settings or Discard Changes to keep the previous settings. The settings become active after you save the changes, and then restart the printer from CentreWare IS or by manually switching it off and then on again.
