Macintosh: Printing the color sampler chart
Use the PANTONE Color sampler chart for your printer to select colors within an application that allows you to specify PANTONE Colors. For more information on using PANTONE Colors, see the related topics on the Tektronix World Wide Web server at http://www.tektronix.xerox.com/.

There are two ways to print the PANTONE Color sampler chart for your Phaser 360 printer:

Printing individual pages from Acrobat Reader

You can open the PANTONE® Phaser 360.pdf file in Adobe's Acrobat Reader application, and print just the pages you want. For best results, print the chart on paper rather than on transparencies.

  1. See Macintosh: Installing the PANTONE Color files for instructions on installing the files you need, including Acrobat Reader.

  2. Once Acrobat Reader is installed, locate the PANTONE® Phaser 360.pdf file in the Pantone Files folder, inside the PhaserTools folder on your hard disk. Double-click the file to launch Acrobat Reader and open the file.

  3. View and print pages from the color sampler chart file as desired.

If you are printing from a supported driver (such as LaserWriter 8):

Print your document with the following selections. Any other selections in the driver will cause the PANTONE Colors to print incorrectly.

If you are not using a supported driver:

Print your document with the following front panel selections or downloadable utility files. Any other selections will cause the PANTONE Colors to print incorrectly.

  4. Select PANTONE Colors within an application using the colors on the chart.

  5. Print your document using one of the following methods:

Printing the entire chart

You can use the Apple Printer Utility to download the PANTONE® Phaser 360.ps file to the printer. This is a PostScript file that contains the necessary color correction and print quality information. For best results, print the chart on paper rather than on transparencies.

  1. See Macintosh: Installing the PANTONE Color files if you haven't already installed the files.

  2. To print the chart, do the following:

    1. Locate the Apple Printer Utility in the PhaserTools folder on your hard disk, and double-click its icon to start the application.

    2. Click Open Printer.

A dialog box appears with the selected zone and printer name at the top.

  3. From the File menu, select Send PostScript File. The Select the PostScript files to download dialog box appears.

  4. Select the PhaserTools folder.

  5. Select the PANTONE® Phaser 360.ps file and click Add.

  6. Click Send to download the file to the printer.

  7. At the prompt Save PostScript output as you are asked for a file name for saving printer output. Use the default name given in the edit box or type in a new name. (Printer output includes status messages generated by the printer reporting such conditions as out of paper.)

  8. Click Save.

  9. If no output is returned by the printer, the Apple Printer Utility displays a dialog box; click Continue.

If output is returned by the printer, you won't see this dialog box; check your hard disk for the file created by the utility for the printer's output.

  10. Select PANTONE Colors within an application using the colors on the chart.

  11. Print your document using one of the following methods:

If you are printing from a supported driver (such as LaserWriter 8):
