View and Configure TCP/IP Settings (Phaser 380, 350, 340, 560, 550, 600 printers) Function Description Dynamic Address Resolution Specifies whether the printer should get its IP address from a RARP or BOOTP response at power-up. Dynamic Address Resolution enables the printer to issue RARP and BOOTP requests on power up and to receive configuration information from RARP or BOOTP servers. This should not be used for a printer-based configuration; this prevents RARP or BOOTP packets from appearing on the network when the printer is turned on or reset. If you choose Dynamic Address Resolution, the values in the following fields are overwritten when the printer is reset: IP Address, Network Mask, Broadcast Address, and Gateway Address. IP Address* This is the printer's address on the network. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. The value entered must be a valid IP address and not 0.0.0.0, 255.255.255.255, or any address ending with 255. Network Mask* This is needed in networks that use sub-netting. If you are not using sub-netting, leave this blank; the printer will choose an appropriate mask. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. Broadcast Address* This is the address the printer uses to send broadcast packets. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. If you are unsure, leave this blank; the printer will choose an appropriate address. Gateway Address(es)* This field allows you to enter up to four destination address/gateway address pairs. Gateway addresses are used to communicate with devices not on the same network segment. Enter a destination IP address, followed by a slash (/), then the gateway host IP address. The destination IP address can be 0.0.0.0 or any valid IP address of the segment that you want to communicate with. The gateway host address is the address of a host that is used to retransmit the packets from the current network segment to another network segment. The format for each address is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. Frame Type This list box allows you to choose the frame type for packet transmission. Ethernet frame types: 802.3-2 (IEEE packet type with MAC header followed by 802.2 LLC header). DIX (DEC/Intel/Xerox Specification Version 2 packet type). Adaptive Encapsulation. If you choose Adaptive Encapsulation, the printer uses both DIX (Ethernet II) and IEEE 802.3 encapsulation (with IEEE 802.2 LLC and SNAP headers). Token Ring frame type: 802.5-2 SNAP (IEEE Token Ring 802.5-SNAP) * The value in this field is overwritten when the printer is reset, the Dynamic Address Resolution is selected, and a RARP or BOOTP server assigns a value.
