View and Configure Parallel Port Settings

Function Description
Parallel Port Enabled (Phaser 360)

Port Enabled (Phaser 380, 350, 340, 560, 550, 600 printers)

This field allows you to enable and disable the protocol.

Language

Select the language you want the printer to receive on the Parallel port; the choices are listed here (not all printers support all languages):

Encoding

This list box allows you to set the Adobe PostScript protocol appropriate for the printer driver you are using:

Handshake
(Phaser 380, 350, 340, 560, 550, and 600 printers only)

This list box determines the type of status that the printer can send to a host computer. Choosing Uni-directional enables minimal status reporting from the printer using the parallel status lines only. Choosing Bi-directional enables detailed status reporting from the printer for drivers that can accept bi-directional status reporting over a parallel channel.

Note: If Communication is set to Uni-directional, Output Device must be set to null string (select any text in the field and delete it). With a PhaserShare Ethernet or Token Ring card, if Communication is set to Bi-directional, the Output Device must be set to %Parallel%.

Back Channel (Phaser 380, 350, 340, 560, 550, and 600 printers only)

This field specifies the destination for status information from the printer; it can be set to %Parallel% (the parallel channel gets data back from the printer) or null string (select any text in the field and delete it). If Communication is set to Uni-directional, this field must be set to None (null string). If Communication is set to Bi-directional, this field must be set to %Parallel%.

Delayed Output Close*

When you choose True (On), the printer does not begin a new job on this port until the current job is completed. When you choose False (Off), the printer can begin processing a new job while it is still printing a previous job.

For Phaser 380, 350, 340, 560, 550, 600 printers: If Delayed Output Close is False (Off), job accounting is disabled for the parallel port.

* If this field is not displayed, it is not supported by the printer.

Note: To ensure consistency with PostScript language requirements, if the Handshake parameter is set, but the corresponding Back Channel parameter is not set, the printer issues a warning and the Back Channel parameter is forced to the correct value. For example, if Handshake is set to Bidirectional, Back Channel is forced to Parallel. If Handshake is set to Unidirectional, Back Channel is forced to None. If Back Channel is changed without the correct corresponding Handshake setting, the printer reports an error.
