Moving or shipping your printer
|
Carefully follow the procedures listed below to avoid damaging your printer when
you need to move or ship it.
- Latch
all covers: Make sure that all doors and covers are firmly latched
to ensure that the printhead is parked. Do not turn off the printer until
the doors are closed to avoid damage to the printhead.
- Turn
off the printer: Wait for the printer's front panel to display the
Ready message or the printer's name, then turn off the printer using the rear-panel
On/Off switch.
- Unplug
the printer: To prevent damage to the printhead and the power supply,
never turn off the printer by unplugging it.
- Wait
for 30 minutes: Let the printer cool down for at least 30 minutes
before you proceed.
Caution:
The printer must be allowed to cool down for at
least 30 minutes before you move it so that the ink has time to
solidify. Failure to wait 30 minutes will likely result in an ink spill
that will damage the printer's internal components.
- Remove
and store the maintenance tray:
Note:
Recognizing the Maintenance Tray: The Maintenance Tray is the
entire black, cartridge assembly. The small, blue tray is the Waste Ink
Tray. The entire Maintenance Tray assembly and the blue Waste Ink tray must
both be removed before shipping the printer.
- Open the
front cover and remove the maintenance tray from the printer, keeping
it level. Close the front cover.
- Remove,
empty, and reinsert the waste liner into the maintenance tray.
- Place the
maintenance tray in a plastic bag and seal the bag. The maintenance tray
contains drum fluid that leaks if the tray is tipped. Keep the maintenance
tray level and in a sealed plastic bag while transporting it.
Caution:
To avoid potentially causing damages not covered by
your printer's warranty, remove the maintenance tray before
moving or shipping the printer. If you have difficulty removing
the maintenance tray, visit the Xerox
infoSMART Knowledge Base,
or you can call Xerox at 1-800-835-6100 (U.S./Canada)
for further instructions or to have a service technician remove the
tray for you.
Always
store a used maintenance tray in a leak-proof package and keep the
tray level. Never ship a partially used maintenance tray.
Lock
the transit restraint:
- Insert a
wide flat-blade screwdriver into the transit restraint slot, located on
the right side of the printer.
- While pressing
inward with medium pressure, turn the transit restraint slot clockwise
to lock the printhead. The lock button is recessed from the side of the
printer when fully engaged.
Caution:
To avoid damaging the printer's internal components,
always turn the printer power off and lock the transit restraint before
moving the printer. Failure to do so may result in damage to the printer's
internal components, and such damage may not be covered by your printer's
warranty.
Repack
the printer: Repack the printer in its original packaging. If you
no longer have the shipping box, call your local dealer for replacement packaging,
or call Tektronix directly at 1-800-835-6100 (U.S.) or 1-800-661-5625 (Canada).
Shipping
the printer to Tektronix: Obtain a Return Materials Authorization
(RMA) number from a Tektronix Service Center. In the U.S. and Canada, call
1-800-835-6100. Write the RMA number on all cartons, then ship the
printer to the appropriate address:
