32-Mbyte RAM SIMM Installation

Only proprietary Tektronix RAM SIMMs will operate correctly in Tektronix Color printers.

Static electricity precautions

  • Leave the printer plugged into its power outlet; this preserves a ground path for static discharges.
  • Touch the printer's bare metal frame often to discharge static electricity from your body.
  • Handle the circuit board(s) by their edges only.
  • Do not lay the board(s) on a metal surface.
  • Avoid wearing nylon or polyester clothing; they generate static electricity.

  1. Power down the printer. Leave the power cord plugged in to provide a ground path for static discharges. Remove the interface cables.
  2. Loosen the two rear panel securing screws.
  3. Slide out the main board.
  4. Generally, connector DRAM 1 contains the lowest-size RAM SIMM as installed by the factory. For upgrades, verify that you are removing the lowest-size RAM SIMM. An identifying part number is printed on each SIMM.

Release the RAM SIMM installed in connector DRAM 1 by spreading the pawls securing each end of the SIMM in the connector.
  5. Insert a memory module in connector DRAM 1 (a), and tilt the module down until it locks in place (b).

When properly inserted, a tab on each end of the connector slips into a hole on each end of the RAM SIMM. Also, a pawl on each end of the connector latches around each end of the RAM SIMM to lock it in place.
  6. Reinstall the main board into the printer.
  7. Reinstall the main board into the printer. Reconnect the host interface cables. Turn on the printer and print the startup page; it lists the amount of memory installed in the printer. Update your host computer's printer driver; this involves configuring the printer driver residing on your computer. Refer to the user manual.
