Network Configuration for HP®-UX 9.x and 10.x

Note: You will need superuser privileges to edit this file.
In this procedure you will modify the /etc/hosts file to identify the printer to the workstation.
- Log onto your system as root.
- Make a backup copy of the /etc/hosts file.
- Edit /etc/hosts and add a line that defines the printer's IP address and its name. The IP address you enter here for the printer must be the same address you specified as the printer's IP address when it was configured. The name is the name by which your workstation identifies the printer.
HP-UX 9.x
The following procedure describes how to use the HP System Administrator Manager program (SAM) to configure a workstation running HP-UX 9.x to support a color PostScript printer.
- From the command line, type sam.
- Highlight Printers and Plotters from the menu, then press Return or click on Open.
- Highlight Printers/Plotters from the menu, then press Return or click Open.
- Click on Actions and select Add Remote Printer/Plotter.
For Printer Name, enter the queue name (this can be anything).
For Remote System Name, enter the name exactly as it appears in your /etc/hosts file.
For Remote Printer Name, enter one of the following for the queue name that the printer recognizes:
PS - PostScript PCL - Text HPGL - HP7475A AUTO - Auto selection of the above three
For Remote Cancel Model, the default value of rcmodel is fine.
For Remote Status Model, the default value of rsmodel is fine.
- Enter information for Printer Class if necessary.
- Click on the box labeled Remote printer is on a BSD system so that it is selected.
- Click OK to process the information.
- To exit SAM, click on File and select Exit.
HP-UX 10.x
The following procedure describes how to use the HP System Administrator Manager program (SAM) to configure a workstation running HP-UX 10.x to support a color PostScript printer.
- From the command line, type sam.
- Double-click on the Printers and Plotters icon.
- Again, double-click on the Printers and Plotters icon.
- Click on Actions and select Add Remote Printer/Plotter.
For Printer Name, enter the queue name (this can be anything).
For Remote System Name, enter the name exactly as it appears in your /etc/hosts file.
For Remote Printer Name, enter one of the following for the queue name that the printer recognizes:
PS - PostScript PCL - Text HPGL - HP7475A AUTO - Auto selection of the above three
For Remote Cancel Model, the default value of rcmodel is fine.
For Remote Status Model, the default value of rsmodel is fine.
- Click OK to process the information.
- To exit SAM, click on File and select Exit.
