View and Configure LocalTalk Settings (Phaser 840, 740, 780, and 360 only)

Setting

Description

LocalTalk Enabled

This field allows you to enable and disable the protocol.

Printer Name

The printer's LocalTalk name.

Printer Type

This field allows you to change the printer's LocalTalk type. The default is LaserWriter. Changing the type is not recommended because it causes the printer to disappear from the Macintosh Chooser. The LocalTalk type must be 32 characters or less. Null characters cannot be used.

Node

This field reports the Node ID established by the LocalTalk protocol.

Language

Select the language you want the printer to receive on the LocalTalk port; the choices are listed here (not all printers support all languages):

  • AutoSelect
  • HP-GL
  • PCL5 (if authorized)
  • PostScript

If you select AutoSelect, the printer automatically senses the language of the print job and processes it accordingly; this is called automatic language selection. Refer to your printer's user manual for more information about automatic language selection and which languages the printer supports.

Filtering

This field allows you to choose whether the printer strips out control characters. The choices are InterpreterBased or None. In most cases, Filtering should be set to None.

Delayed Output Close

When you choose True, the printer does not begin a new job on this port until the current job is completed. When you choose False, the printer can begin processing a new job while it is still printing a previous job.
