TCP/IP Configuration Overview

This topic provides an overview of TCP/IP configuration. For detailed printer configuration instructions, refer to TCP/IP Printer Configuration (All Platforms); for host configuration instructions, refer to the topic for your environment:

PhaserShare Series B Ethernet and Token Ring interfaces support the following capabilities:

  • Print jobs. The interface can accept print jobs sent via AppSocket, ftp, telnet, lpr, or lp with lpr extensions.
  • Printer status. The interface can report printer status through the following protocols:
    • lpq/lpc ( lpc for UNIX BSD systems only).
    • Syslog (UNIX systems only). This protocol functions like a remote printer front panel for reporting printer status.
    • SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol; UNIX systems only). The printer's interface responds to status queries from host-resident SNMP utilities.
    • AppSocket. This protocol allows a direct, socket-level connection to the printer.
    • HTTP (HyperText Transport Protocol). This protocol allows communication with the printer via PhaserLink Printer Management Software.
