Installation

System requirements

  • A Xerox color printer equipped with an Ethernet card or a Token Ring card.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1, 3.11 (or later), Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 95 installed on workstations with standard memory. The workstation must be at least an 80286 PC.
  • Novell NetWare 2.x, 3.x, and 4.x networks with shells 3.26 or above and IPX version 3.10 or above.

  • NOTE
    To determine your network IPX version, use the NetWare NVER command. The IPX version is not shown when using the IPXODI ? command.

  • Supervisor or equivalent permission on all NetWare 3. x file servers to be configured.

and/or

  • Administrator or equivalent permission on all NetWare 4.x networks to be configured.


Installation methods

The installer supports the following installation methods:

  • Standard install. This is the recommended installation method; it copies the necessary files to your workstation's hard disk. All program features are installed automatically using standard settings.
  • Network install. This method allows you to specify a drive and directory on a NetWare file server in which to place the files needed for the installation. You can then install the software from that directory to designated workstations using the standard install.

  • NOTE
    The drive you specify should be a NetWare shared drive. You must have write access to the directory you specify.


Installation procedure

Installation for Phaser 840, 740, and 780 printers

  1. Put the printer's software CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
    • If the Windows autorun feature is enabled, the CD-ROM launches automatically.
    • If the Windows autorun feature is disabled, double-click My Computer, then double click the CD icon to launch the CD-ROM.
  2. View the brief introductory information, then click Install Drivers to launch the installer.
  3. When you are prompted to select Easy Install or Custom Install, select Custom Install.
  4. During custom installation, a dialog box is displayed enabling you to install the PhaserShare Administrator. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Installation for Phaser 360 printers

  1. Locate and run the file SETUP.EXE on the printer's CD-ROM or on printer software diskette 1.
  2. When you are prompted to select Easy Install or Custom Install, select Custom Install.
  3. During the custom installation, a dialog box is displayed enabling you to install the PhaserShare Administrator. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
