View and Configure PhaserShare Card Settings; Token Ring (Phaser 840, 740, 780, and 360 printers)

Function

Description

Card Type

This field reports the type of network card installed in the printer.

Token Ring Address

This field specifies the printer's Token Ring address (by default, this is a bit-swapped version of the Printer's Printer ID, and it is a unique address on the network). You can supply a Locally Administered Address.

For Locally Administered Addresses, you can enter any valid Token Ring address between 4x:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx and 7x:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx. Entering an empty string causes the printer to reset the address to the printer's default address.

Speed

This field reports the Token Ring speed set by the jumper on the PhaserShare Token Ring card installed in the printer. The speed is either 4 Mbps or 16 Mbps.

Early Token Release

This field enables or disables the IBM-compatible Early Token Release feature.

This field is displayed only when Speed is set to 16 Mbps.

Frame Routing

This list box specifies the Token Ring source routing. The choices are:

  • Source Route (use source routing)
  • Transparent (no source routing)

Broadcast Frame Explorer Type

Used when broadcasting to all network nodes.

These buttons control the default frame type for source route broadcasts. The choices are:

  • Single Route. The printer uses single route broadcasts for most source route broadcasts.
  • All Routes. The printer uses all routes broadcasts for all broadcasts.

Broadcast is ignored if Frame Routing is set to Transparent.

This field is displayed only when Frame Routing is set to Source Route.

NOTE: Some protocols (for example, IP and ARP) always use all routes, so they are not affected by this parameter.

Unknown Route Explorer Type

Used when the printer is searching for a route to a specific network node.

These buttons control the default frame type for source route broadcasts. The choices are:

  • Single Route. The printer uses single route broadcasts for most source route broadcasts.
  • All Routes. The printer uses all routes broadcasts for all broadcasts.

This field is displayed only when Frame Routing is set to Source Route.

NOTE: Some protocols (for example, IP and ARP) always use all routes, so they are not affected by this parameter.

Route Cache Timeout

This field specifies the time in seconds that an entry remains in the source route table before being updated. Enter a value between 5 to 65535.

This field is displayed only when Frame Routing is set to Source Route.

Route Cache Size

This field specifies the number of entries in the source route table. Enter a value between 10 to 300.

This field is displayed only when Frame Routing is set to Source Route.
