32-Mbyte RAM SIMM Installation
|
Only proprietary Xerox RAM SIMMs will operate correctly in Xerox Color printers.
Static electricity precautions
-
Plug in the ground adapter (003-1501-00) in an AC outlet. Connect the anti-static mat (006-7056-00) to the adapter's groundplug.
-
Put on your anti-static wrist strap and connect it to the anti-static mat.
-
Leave the printer plugged into its power outlet; this preserves a ground path for static discharges.
-
Touch the printer's bare metal frame often to discharge static electricity from your body.
-
Handle the circuit board(s) by their edges only.
-
Do not lay the board(s) on a metal surface.
-
Avoid wearing nylon or polyester clothing; they generate static electricity.

-
Turn off the printer. Leave the power cord plugged in to provide a discharge path for static electricity.
-
Disconnect all host interface cables and SCSI cables from the rear of the image processor board.
-
Remove the six screws securing the image processor board to the rear of the printer's card cage.
-
Slide out the image processor board.
-
Insert the 32-Mbyte RAM SIMM in connector SIMM 1 (a), and tilt the module up until it locks in place (b). If connector SIMM 1 is already filled, insert the 32-Mbyte RAM SIMM in connector SIMM 2. Connector SIMM 1 should always be filled before SIMM 2.
When properly inserted, a tab on each end of the connector slips into a hole on each end of the
RAM SIMM. Also, a pawl on each end of the connector latches around each end of the RAM SIMM to lock it in place.
-
Reinstall the image processor board into the printer.
-
Reconnect the host interface cables. Turn on the printer and print the startup page; it indicates the amount of RAM installed in the printer. Update your host computer's printer driver; this involves configuring the printer driver residing on your computer. Refer to the printer user manual.
