16-Mbyte RAM SIMM Installation -- (4685F16)

Only proprietary Xerox RAM SIMMs will operate correctly in Xerox Color printers.

Static electricity precautions

  • Leave the printer plugged into its power outlet; this preserves a ground path for static discharges.
  • Touch the printer's bare metal frame often to discharge static electricity from your body.
  • Handle the circuit board(s) by their edges only.
  • Do not lay the board(s) on a metal surface.
  • Make the least possible movements to avoid generating static electricity.
  • Avoid wearing wool, nylon or polyester clothing; they generate static electricity.

Phaser 600 installation

  1. Turn off the printer. Leave the power cord plugged in to provide a discharge path for static electricity.
  2. Disconnect all host interface cables and SCSI cables from the rear of the image processor board.
  3. Remove the six screws securing the image processor board to the rear of the printer's card cage.
  4. Slide out the image processor board.
  5. Insert the 16-Mbyte RAM SIMM in connector SIMM 1 (a), and tilt the module up until it locks in place (b). If connector SIMM 1 is already filled, insert the 16-Mbyte RAM SIMM in connector SIMM 2. Connector SIMM 1 should always be filled before SIMM 2.

When properly inserted, a tab on each end of the connector slips into a hole on each end of the RAM SIMM. Also, a pawl on each end of the connector latches around each end of the RAM SIMM to lock it in place.
  6. Reinstall the image processor board into the printer.
  7. Reconnect the host interface cables. Turn on the printer and print the startup page; it indicates the amount of RAM installed in the printer. Update your host computer's printer driver; this involves configuring the printer driver residing on your computer. Refer to the printer user manual.
